Extreme Learning provides students who are English Language Learners (ELL) with support through use of a software program, English in a Flash, which is specifically designed for ELL’s .

English in a Flash is a Renaissance Learning Program that was created for beginning and intermediate level English speakers to learn the building blocks of English vocabulary and sentence structure. Each lesson introduces ninety (90) words with pictures, audio, and repetition through a library with 15 chapters. Each chapter has a pretest, five lessons and a quiz after each lesson. After three lessons, the program automatically includes a focused practice session on words that the student has missed repeatedly. Students create phrases, dialogues, and sentences by combining the words from the lesson. As they listen and engage throughout the program, students develop English vocabulary and phonemic awareness.

English in a Flash also provides immediate feedback to students. After completing each quiz, students see a bar graph on their screen which shows how many words they mastered during the lesson. English in a Flash includes printable sheets of a student’s missed words and an accompanying picture, as a study guide for further practice at home.

The English Language Development support portion of the day is incorporated into the after school program’s schedule. Students who score as Levels 1 and 2 on the CELDT test use English in a Flash during the Language Arts portion of Extreme Learning’s  program. In addition, bilingual tutors are available to reinforce and assist with language acquisition.
