Extreme Learning Offers Grant Writing Services

Extreme Learning is now offering grant, report and educational content writing services to its customers. Company Co-Founder Mary Smathers is an experienced grant writer with a successful record of obtaining millions of dollars for school and district programs. She is familiar with the various state and federal funds available, as well as the many foundations with budgets dedicated to education and youth issues. Mary is able to work with your local team to develop a strong plan and then write the proposal in a manner compelling to funding organizations.

2007 Antioch Unified High School District

Grant Writer

  • On short notice of less than two weeks, pulled together local team of school personnel and community partners to develop program and write application for competitive ASSETS grant for after school support program for high school students. Successfully obtained full $250,000 annual grant for five years, totaling $1.25 million for struggling students at Antioch High School.

2007 Extreme Learning, Inc.

Writer and Developer of State Application

  • Wrote, researched and compiled all supporting documents for 90 page application to State Department of Education for Extreme Learning to be approved as a Supplemental Educational Services support provider. Approval granted for maximum two year term.

Editor for Handbooks, Manuals. Website Content

  • Serve as editor during writing phase and final copy editor for almost all corporate training guides, job manuals, handbooks and website content and organizational structure. Wrote all original training guides and job handbooks when company was smaller.

2001 Charter School of Morgan Hill in development phase

Grant Writer as Volunteer Co-Founder of School

  • Wrote and obtained $10,000 start up grant from Walton Family Foundation.
  • Wrote and secured $150,000 state funded Charter School Implementation grant to establish school.

2001 Live Oak High School, Morgan Hill

Grant Writer

  • Wrote and successfully obtained educational innovation grants for Live Oak High School’s school reform efforts, $50,000 from Noyce Foundation and $40,000 from Johnson Foundation.

1994—1997 Fremont Union High School District, Sunnyvale

Grant and Report Writer, Program Developer

  • Wrote successful $220,000 state health department grant to expand educational and support service program for teen parents.
  • Completed Coordinated Compliance Review reports and other mandated state reports.
  • Served as Project Coordinator for development of community wide tutorial program for Fremont High School and feeder schools. Obtained $225,000 grant to launch tutoring services program.
  • Secured $55,000 grant from El Camino Hospital to expand childcare services for teen parents in the school district.
  • Wrote and received $33,600 grant from El Camino Hospital to establish childcare for teen parents on a comprehensive high school campus to prevent teen mothers from dropping out.
